Before I start I would just like to inform you that I will be writing my blog post twice: in English and Spanish since Google translates it “wrong”

Antes de que comience, me gustaría informarle que escribiré mi publicación dos veces: en inglés y español, ya que Google lo traduce “mal”

So this year 2018 is my last year of High School, in Colmenar. It’s crazy to think that this time next year hopefully I will be studying in Málaga, in a completely new environment, with new friends and a new life; from being the veterans of the school to become a baby again.

Lot’s of people probably don’t know how the school system works here in Spain, I’m going to try my best to explain it and then I am going to write about my experience of my first week back at High School. When you reach high school A.K.A ESO (obligatory secondary school) this is for 4 years, if you’re fortunate to pass each year and don’t have to repeat the year, thus adding on your time there. After the final year (Cuarto) you either choose to carry on with education or finish then.  Following on from ESO, there are various options, but I’m choosing the baccalaureate that takes 2 years to complete and in the last year, there’s a huge, extremely difficult exam called Selectividad that grades you, depending on that grade you can get into certain universities or not.

I’m in year 4 of ESO, in this year you have to make a decision on what subjects you are choosing to focus on,  excel in or hope to ;), it gets divided into 2 categories: sciences or letters; I have chosen sciences.

My subjects this year are, Physics and Chemistry (they’re both in one subject), Biology, History, Spanish language (also Spanish Literature), Sports, Religion, English, French, Academic Mathematics and Performing Arts and Dance.

It’s really good because, in most of the subjects that I have chosen apart from the obligatory ones, we’re very few people in the class, so it’s like having private classes and it’s much easier to understand everything without too many distractions, a benefit too since they’re all very intense subjects. My favourite subject this year is Performing Arts and Dance, we’re going to be performing a play “Alice in Wonderland”, I’m going to do casting for Alice, the White Queen and the Dutchess, it’s going to be a personal challenge as I have some very musically talented classmates who I shall be going up against.

According to my teacher, she is going to try to contact some of her colleagues, so that we can perform in a proper theatre, and all the money we could possibly raise, donate it to a charity. I will let you know how it goes on.

But for now, I have to get my head down and get the best grades possible.

Before I go, I just wanted to say that some of my friends at school and so on, do not understand why I’m writing a blog, they think it’s ridiculous “why would anybody care about that” they say, nevertheless I think it’s a way to escape from my hectic school life and teenage life, not everyone is as fortunate as me to have a roof over my head, a family that inspires me and connections to this massive world -The Internet- haters will always be hating, hence why you should do whatever as long as it makes you happy and doesn’t affect anybody negatively.

EN ESPAÑOL

Antes de comenzar, me gustaría informarle que escribiré mi publicación en dos ocasiones: en inglés y español, ya que Google lo traduce “mal”

Así que este año 2018 es mi último año de secundaria, en Colmenar IES Los Montes. Es una locura pensar que esta vez el año que viene espero estar estudiando en Málaga, en un entorno completamente nuevo, con nuevos amigos y una nueva vida; de ser los veteranos del Instituto a volver a ser un bebé.

Mucha gente probablemente no sabe cómo funciona el sistema escolar aquí en España (ya que, la mayoría de los que leen mis blogs son ingleses), voy a hacer todo lo posible para explicarlo y luego voy a escribir sobre mi experiencia de mi primera semana en el Instituto. Cuando llegues a la ESO (Escuela Secundaria Obligatoria) esto se da para 4 años, si eres afortunado de aprobar cada año y no tienes que repetir el año, aumentando así tu tiempo allí. Después del último año (Cuarto) o eliges continuar con tu educación o terminar allí tus estudios. Después de la ESO, hay varias opciones, pero elijo el bachillerato que dura 2 años y en el último año, hay un examen enorme y extremadamente difícil llamado Selectividad que te califica, dependiendo de la calificación en la que puedas participar ciertas universidades o no.

Estoy en el cuarto año de ESO, en este año debes tomar una decisión sobre las asignaturas que eliges enfocarte, destacar o desear;), se divide en 2 categorías: ciencias o letras; Escogí ciencias. Mis asignaturas de este año son Física y Química (ambas están en una asignatura), Biología, Historia, Lengua española (también literatura española), Educación Física , Religión, Inglés, Francés, Matemáticas Académicas y Artes escénicas y Danza.

Es realmente bueno porque en la mayoría de las asignaturas que he elegido aparte de las obligatorias, somos muy pocas personas en la clase, así que es como tener clases particulares y es mucho más fácil entender todo sin mucha distracción, un beneficio también ya que todos son asignaturas muy intensas. Mi asignatura favorita este año es, Artes escénicas y Danza, vamos a presentar una obra de teatro “Alicia en el país de las Maravillas”, voy a hacer casting para Alicia, la Reina Blanca y el Dutchess, va a ser un desafío personal ya que tengo algunos compañeros de clase con mucho talento musical a los que enfrentaré.

Según mi maestra, tratará de ponerse en contacto con algunos de sus colegas, para que podamos actuar en un teatro adecuado, y todo el dinero que podamos recaudar, donarlo a una obra de caridad. Te dejaré saber cómo sucede.

Pero por ahora, tengo que incar los codos y obtener las mejores calificaciones posibles.

Antes de irme, solo quería decir que algunos de mis amigos en la escuela y demás, no entienden por qué estoy escribiendo un blog, piensan que es ridículo “porque a nadie le importa”, dicen, sin embargo, creo que es una forma de escapar de mi agitada vida escolar y adolescente, no todo el mundo es tan afortunadoscomo yo para tener un techo sobre mi cabeza, una familia que me inspira y conexiones con este mundo masivo – El Internet-. Los que odian siempre odiarán, por lo tanto deberías hacer lo que sea mientras te haga feliz y no afecte negativamente a nadie.
